Your “new life” was supposed to start now… except we are in a lockdown period, which inevitably means “changes”! What should you do now?
Reassess your plans!
Of course, this is easier said than done, but we are here to give you a little summary.
If urgent moves can still take place, they must comply with hygiene rules, social distancing, and non-gathering regulations. For example, carrying a washing machine requires two people, making it impossible to maintain a 1.5-meter distance. This applies to many similar tasks.
Due to lack of protective equipment and difficult conditions, the Belgian Chamber of Movers has advised all professional movers to suspend activities during the lockdown — a recommendation we have followed, of course!
What should I do with my move?
1. First, try to postpone your move if possible. Discuss with your landlord or tenants and try to reach an agreement.
Because of Covid-19, the “winter truce” period has been extended. This means that administrative and judicial evictions are suspended until April 5 in Wallonia following federal government measures to combat the coronavirus epidemic. Deadlines and appeals are also suspended for 30 days. (Source: RTBF)
2. Notarially, non-urgent document signings are postponed until the end of the lockdown. Urgent documents, such as a testament of a seriously ill person or documents preventing financial issues, are still processed. (Source: NOTAIRE.BE)
3. Our teams remain available by phone, Monday to Friday at 04/343.64.33. If your move was scheduled during the lockdown and you already paid a deposit, it will be refunded. We have already contacted all affected clients.
4. Reschedule your move as soon as possible. Once the lockdown ends, all pending moves can resume, and demand will likely be higher. Book a new date early, even if you might need to adjust it due to extended restrictions.
5. Use the time to perfect your packing, organize your belongings, and sort items, keeping only the essentials for now.
6. Take time to plan your future home setup, browsing furniture, décor, and kitchen sites, and visualize your new space while waiting.
7. Don’t hesitate to repurpose some boxes to build a fun fort for your children or turn them into a “soapbox car” — fun for both kids and adults!
In the meantime… take good care of yourself! Your health is the top priority.
