Have you recently moved? Changed your main residence? Groupe Spiroux, professional movers in Luxembourg and Verviers, provides advice to efficiently and correctly notify your change of address in compliance with the law!

Mandatory Administrative Step

When moving, there is one step that is legally mandatory: informing the authorities that you (and your family) have changed your primary residence, meaning the place where you mainly live during the year.

To do this, you must first go to the municipal administration (Population Service) of your new residence with your identity card.

Did you know?

If, for compelling reasons, you cannot personally go to the administration of your new municipality, you are allowed to submit a written declaration of your change of address. For a family move, it is sufficient that one adult member of the family makes this declaration. A minor must always be accompanied by someone with parental authority.

Next, a police officer will visit the new residence you reported to the municipal administration. You will then receive a document that requires you to return to the municipal office (Population Service) with your electronic ID and PIN, as well as your vehicle registration card (pink card). The official will then finalize the process by encoding or validating your updated information.

Inform Others of Your Change of Address

To efficiently notify your new address to everyone in your contact list without losing too much time or energy, Groupe Spiroux, specialists in moving services for individuals and businesses in Luxembourg and Verviers, suggests the following tips:

  1. To ensure you don’t miss any correspondence, bills, or important documents, start by having your mail forwarded for a set period via BPost: DoMyMove.
  2. For each piece of mail received during this transition period, contact the sender or organization to notify them of your new address.
  3. Make sure you don’t forget anyone by using a comprehensive list of all potential senders.
